Who doesn’t like to get a “thank you” note? No one, that’s who. But of course, here are some ways to get the most out of this extra effort: Generic bad. Personalized good. An interview process includes connecting with people you meet. Make a point to do this, and to take mental notes of interactions or specific topics of conversations with each person you meet with. This will make thank you note personalization a cinch. Grab a business card from your interviewers. When you spell that complicated name correctly, you’ll thank us later. (And even the common names get botched on occasion.) Don’t ignore Human Resources. Of course you’ll write to the managers you meet. But remember that HR also has a say in whether or not you get hired. Whether you spent a significant amount of time with them during your interview or just a little, they might just appreciate this gesture more than anyone else.
