Not so fast. Short answer: no. I know, I know … that’s rather blunt. (Just think of it as the proverbial Band-Aid. You have to rip it off fast!) Now, let’s talk about why. As much as I’d love to tell you that your years of night classes, weekend sacrifices and tuition debt will earn you an immediate pay raise, I just can’t. In fact, there’s a chance that your professional growth won’t change regardless of that fancy — and expensive — trio of letters after your name. We all respect your advanced degree, employers included. But the way many senior managers see it, if you’re such a stellar asset, wouldn’t you earn increased pay and a title upgrade through your own performance at work? An advanced degree simply isn’t your ticket to promotion town.
